New Heating Requirements for 2017
Landlords have always been required to maintain a minimum internal temperature during the heating season — Oct 1 to May 31. The requirements had been pegged to certain external temperatures. However, legislation signed by Mayor de Blasio on May 30, 2017 not only disregards outside temperature, but increases the nighttime minimum. Effective Oct. 1, 2017, landlords must maintain a minimum of 62 degrees between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. regardless of outdoor temperature.
