HPD Property Registration Deadline is August 31
All residential buildings with three or more units or private dwellings with 1 to 2 residential units, must register with the HPD by August 31st annually. Additionally, whenever ownership or information on a valid registration changes, a new registration must be filed at the time of the change.
The easiest way to file is to use the HPD’s Property Registration Online System (PROS).
While the online system eliminates some steps, it is still necessary to print out the completed form, sign and mail to:
Department of Housing and Preservation
Church Street Station
PO Box 3888
New York, NY 10008-3888
Once HPD receives both the registration and payment of the $13 registration fee, they will send a receipt/confirmation, typically within 2 to 4 weeks of filing the form. Note that payment is to be made directly to the Department of Finance, either online at nyc.gov/payonline or by mail, where borough, block, lot and that the payment is for Housing-Property Registration are clearly indicated on the check, to:
Department of Finance
PO Box 680
Newark, NJ 0710-0680
Failure to register a property is subject to civil penalties of $250 to $500. Properties will be ineligible to certify violations, request a Code Violation Dismissal, or initiate a court action to recover possession of the premises for nonpayment of rent.
