December 31 deadline for Paint and Boiler Inspections
December 31st is the last day to perform the annual lead-based paint inspection of apartments and common areas if the building is subject to the City’s lead-based paint law (i.e., built before 1978) and a child under age 6 lives in an apartment.
December 31st is also the last day of the cycle to inspect boilers. High pressure boilers require two inspections (internal and external) per inspection cycle, which must be six months apart. Low-pressure boiler inspections must be conducted once each inspection cycle, but the low-pressure inspection must be at least six months after the previous low-pressure inspection. Inspection results must be filed with the Department of Buildings (DOB) within 45 days from the date of inspection.
